We are happy to introduce our very first Colombian coffee. 

We bought this lot from Osito, a small, vertically integrated import/export company based half in Connecticut, half in Colombia. We bought this coffee from Osito’s owner Kyle and his partner Jose, but they also deal with a lot of small producers all across Colombia.

What sets Osito apart, especially when it comes to Colombia, is that they work ONLY on fixed price contracts. This means that the fluctuation on the C-Market (aka the NYC stock exchange) never affects prices paid to farmer. Except from a couple of self-exporting, bigger farm, Osito stands alone in that revolutionary way of paying farmers in Colombia. This helps bring certainty to farmers in a market where uncertainty is the norm.

To paraphrase Kyle: if the farmers costs are fixed, why shouldn’t the prices also be fixed? 

This resonated with us and we are happy to buy their coffees.
